Boitumelo Special School soccer team received a very warm welcome at the Kimberley Airport and team coach, Lebogang Diutlwileng, thanked MEC of Education Martha Bartlett and the supporters for the delightful welcoming on Friday.
MEC Bartlett joined hundreds of supporters at the airport to welcome the team following their successful trip to the United Arab Emirates where they were crowned world champions at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi. The team beat Spain 4-1 in the final of the prestigious tournament. Speaking to the media at the airport, Diutlwileng said he was happy with the wonderful turnout, “It’s been a wonderful turnout at the airport today. Want to thank the fans, all the Departments that sponsored us, and MEC Bartlett.”
The teams Captain, Ethan Molatlhegi, stated the words encouragement from MEC Bartlett and support from their communities before their departure left them with immense courage and belief and it was wonderfull to see that extend to performances on the pitch. MEC Martha Bartlett thanked Boitumelo Special School for representing South Africa with pride in the United Arab Emirates. “On behalf of the public, we would like to thank the team for making the nation and Northern Cape proud.”
The Department of Education generously donated R40 000 to the team before their departure to the UAE.
