Bright Mind Enterprise is a family business which manufacture learner support material for foundation phase learners. The material is in English, Afrikaans and Setswana. They also manufacture learner support material for the blind and as well as the deaf. The learning material prices vary from R650 for a padded chair and desk to R3800 for a mobile electronic storyteller.
The Foundation phase plays a key role in shaping and moulding children when it comes to education. They start learning how to read and write and also interpret things. They believe that it is important for companies to create products that help children in the learning process.
In addition to the mobile electronic story teller devices, Bright Minds Enterprise has also created boards which are displayed in the classrooms for children to use as birthday or weather boards. Apart from the boards serving educational purposes, it makes teaching fun and interactive.
The physical products have been approved by the Department of Education and have since been presented to district officers to implement in schools around the province.
They have seen a need for their products in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district in Kuruman but hope that their products will be able to be in every classroom across the province for the learning benefit and advantage of children specifically in the foundation phase.
If implemented in schools across the province it could help better the lives of learners. Foundation phase is from Grade R to Grade 3 and emphasis is placed on this educational stage because what children learn in the foundation phase (like reading and writing) set the standard of their work and performance going forward into their schooling careers.
Ultimately the goal of these products is to make learning fun and possible and to go beyond just the traditional way of teaching in the classroom.
