Correctional Services hosts fourth annual Reading for Redemption Regional Competition

From 13th to 15th August 2018, the Department of Correctional Services – Kimberley Management Area, under the guidance of the National Department of Correctional Services hosted their fourth annual Reading for Redemption Regional Competition at Tswelopele Correctional Centre to promote rehabilitation through education.

In continuation to honour their participation in the National Funda Mzantsi Championship Competition, the Free State and Northern Cape Region organized the Reading for Redemption Regional Competition – a platform to expose offenders to personal rehabilitation and self-improvement through Reading, Book Review, Debation, Spelling Bee, and Public Speaking, elements of education. The competition proceeded with sensational enthusiasm from participants as it gave them an opportunity to partake in languages of their origin, evidently being more able to express themselves freely and adequately.

The Commissioner for Free State and Northern Cape Region, Ms Subashni Moodley, applauded her Area Commissioners of different Management Areas and the offenders for putting their time and effort in Reading for Redemption Regional Competition which have stimulated reading interest across Correctional Services facilities through book clubs and reading review. “We take our participation in National Funda Mzantsi Championship Competition very seriously. Reading for Redemption Regional Competition is another way of us making sure we keep bringing trophies back to our region {Free State and Northern Cape Region} after we won 2 trophies in our first year, went on to win 11 on second year and 15 on our third year of entry into the National Funda Mzantsi Championship”, Ms Moodley explained.
