First Career Expo in Barkly West

Tshegofatso Chifokoyo, Founder of the Live, Love, Believe Non-Profit Organisation are set to host the first Career Expo in Barkly West on the 11th and 12th of July. The event will be taking place at the Vaal River High School where the NPO aims to assist the youth in developing their lives, especially those in rural areas.

LLB will be hosting the maiden Future Leaders Career Expo with the theme being ‘Purpose Driven Leadership’. The event will cater for high school students from Grade 9 to Matric as well as unemployed youth in the area. The organisation aims at having at least 300 students in attendance with the core focus to provide guidance and to make an impact on the career paths that will be taken by the future leaders of the small Northern Cape area. Learners will be given information on Universities, TVET colleges, financial aid, skills development programmes and career advice services.

Learners can take aptitude tests to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, so that they are well aware on the varying aspects of their development that they need to better. When students get to choose their career paths they need to attain certain marks to get into the institutions they wish to further their education at. Informative Expos assist students in collecting data for the various courses at their disposal and what they need to do in order to qualify to get those qualifications.

Chifokoyo says, “At LLB we believe that it is our most important duty to build a generation of strong future leaders that are ethical, progressive and empathetic. All in all, our educational programme is called Botho because this is where our intentions are rooted. We believe that the principle of Botho, ‘I am because you are,’ says it all. Our future leadership will be a reflection of our present values and motivations. Our programme is clear in our goal to assist and guide the future leaders of our communities towards purposed driven life choices”.

The exhibitors for the career expo are Frances Baard District Department of Education (DOE), Department of Higher Education and Trainings SETA, DOE Funza Lushaka, WESSA and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The LLB welcomes any entity that is willing to join hands with them to the betterment of the execution of the event.
