The Blue Bulls 2019 Currie Cup campaign seems to have taken a major dent after home side Tafel Lager Griquas thrashed them 37-15 at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday to move to the top of the log. Coach Brent Janse van Rensburg’s team is having an excellent start to thier Currie Cup campaign beating a Sharks outfit 37-17. It is impressive that the Kimberley team are now two points clear of the second placed Golden Lions ahead of their final two games which will both be home games in Kimberley against Western Province and Lions respectively.
Man of the match, George Whitehead controlled things from the flyhalf while Zak Burger was stunning with his excellent play from the ruck and for scoring two tries. The win has boosted the home-side chances of reaching the playoffs “I certainly believe we have the potential to get to a playoff, everyone has the belief within the group and it is certainly something we would like to achieve,” Rensburg asserted.
Blue Bulls, coach Pote Human labelled his side’s home defeat to Griquas as a disgrace after it effectively ended their Currie Cup playoff hopes, “This leaves us rock bottom, we are last on the log now and it is going to be a struggle to get out of there”. The Bulls concern now will be to get out of the last place where they find themselves in an extremely unfamiliar promotion-relegation position.
