PSL plays host to exciting fixtures

Supersport United 4-0 Black Leopards

Supersport United returned home in earnest style as they managed a 4-0 win to prevail over Black Leopards at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Previous Portsmouth striker James Keene opened the scoring after interval. Aubrey Modiba then multiplied the lead in the 34th minute. The hosts needed to hold up until well into the second half for a third goal, and it came by means of man of the match, Evans Rusike. Keene then proceeded to wrap up the scoring with a goal in stoppage time.

Bloemfontein Celtic 0-1 Maritzburg United

Maritzburg secured their first PSL win of the season when they clutched 1-0 win against Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Molemela Stadium. Bandile Shandu’s second moment strike was sufficient to lift the Maritzburg from the bottom of the log where they are currently supplanted by the battling Baroka FC.

Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 AmaZulu

Kaizer Chiefs stretched out their triumphant run to three matches as they cruised past AmaZulu at FNB Stadium. Amakhosi showed the rousing movement they have been displaying under Solinas. Usuthu failed to deal with a corner and Ramahlwe Mphahlele opened the scoring with a volley which saw the ball past Monneb Joseph. Another goal in the 58th minute by defender Siyabonga Ngezana 13 minutes after the resumption of play sealed the game.

Free State Stars 1-0 Highlands Park

Free State Stars pulled a miraculous win as they gave Highlands Park their first thrashing of the season with a 1-0 triumph at Goble Park. Tshepo Tema’s 57th moment strike was sufficient to isolate the two groups, as the hosts hung on for the win, in spite of playing the last 15 minutes with ten men, following Nyiko Mobbie’s sending off.

Baroka 1-2 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates survived a late dramatic and nervous win against Baroka at Peter Mokaba on Saturday. Much like their midweek fiasco against Cape Town City, the Soweto giants went to the break 2-0 up after a long-range strike from Vincent Pule, trailed by another strike from Thembinkosi Lorch to give the Bucanners some breathing space. The fast pace play of Pirates dropped in the second half for the visitors, and it took the 79th moment for the home side to score with Onkabetse Makgantai pulling one back.

Bidvest Wits 0-1 Polokwane City

Things are getting interesting in the Top 5 with the number one spot currently up for grabs after log leaders Bidvest Wits endured a 1-0 annihilation to Polokwane City at Bidvest Stadium in the first of the end of the week’s PSL installations on Friday night. The opponents went to the break halted at 0-0, and it took a 74th-minute strike from a set piece from Jabu Maluleke to give the visitors the victory.
