Sol Plaatje provide water tanks to residents
Forty Water Tanks were distributed by the Sol Plaatje Municipality to vulnerable communities within the municipal area. According to the executive mayor’s office more water tanks will be distributed during the lockdown period.
In conjunction with the Department of Water and Sanitation, Sol Plaatje wants the residents to practice good hygiene as precautionary measures “to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic through the supply of water tanks in informal areas across the city and its surrounding areas.”
Watertanks were distributed in Bobo se Plaas, Jacksonville, Lerato Park, Phomolong, Colville grounds, Snake Park, Riemvasmaak and Chris Hani Park. More areas will also be provided with water tanks in the coming days.
The mayor’s office indicated that the municipality received a “limited number of sanitary donations and food parcels and through its health and social development unit.” The food parcels and toiletry donations were given to a shelter for the homeless and to indigent families.
Patrick Mabilo, the executive mayor made a plea to Kimberley residents to donate items in support of destitute persons during the period of the pandemic. He further re-emphasised the President’s call to stay at home and take the necessary precautions.
