The Springboks have beaten the Wallabies in their Rugby Title meeting in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.
The Boks couldn’t have planned for a better start as star winger Aphiwe Dyantyi grabbed a intercept from Kurtley Beale to score with a few minutes on the board. Erasmus’ men were in an attacking mind-set in the opening half, creating various scoring chances. They scored again in the 22nd moment of the match when Handre Pollard detected a jumble against front-rower Scott Sio, assaulting the favourable position line before offloading to Faf de Klerk to score the second attempt.
The Wallabies were not going down without a fight as they hit back with two brisk attempts from Will Genia and Reece Hodge to limit gap to two points. Pollard kept the scoreboard ticking with two extra shots in the first half to give the Boks a 20-12 halftime lead. It was much the same for the Boks in the second half, as they kept on incurring regional weight on the Wallabies yet neglected to fully capitilize. Pollard converted another penalty to extend the lead and end the game at 23 – 12.
The Springboks are on a high but their most daunting challenge of the year awaits as they take on an All Black side seeking redemption.
