The stepfather of a 10-year-old Grobblershoop girl has been sentenced to a 20-year jail term for her rape. Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri applauded the National Prosecuting Authority and the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Lucky Malepe for showing diligence in investigation and prosecution by ensuring that the stepfather is served with a jail term for the crime.
“The rule of law should instill the common sense of morality back into the society, where women and children shall live without fear, of being raped and abused. Long jail sentences including life imprisonment, hoping that it shall serve as a deterrent to criminals and crimes against women and children should be condemned in strongest terms” said Lieutenant General Shivuri. Last week the Grobblershoop Regional Court sentenced the child rapist to a 20-year jail term for raping his 10-year old stepdaughter.
Spokesperson Capatin Olebogeng Tawana say the man raped the girl repeatedly between the year 2014 /2015. “He was arrested 2015 after the girl reported the matter to her granny, as she could not relay the matter to her biological mother. The investigating officer worked tirelessly to link the accused with the case, of which forensic investigation also assisted in ensuring that the stepfather was convicted and sentenced,” Tawana concluded.
