Tiger Wins 5th Masters

On Sunday, Tiger Woods won his first major in 11 years and it’s a performance that is being described as one of the greatest comebacks ever.

It was an all-American affair with three-time major winner Brooks Koepka, world number two Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele all contesting for the win. To their equal dismay and admiration, it was Woods who seized victory by finishing on 13-under 275 to be crowned the champion.

“It’s hard to really feel bad about how I played because I just witnessed history,” said Xander Schauffele, one of three players who finished second. “It was really cool coming down the stretch, all the historic holes, Tiger making the roars. I feel like I got full Masters experience.”

The triumph was the first major victory for Woods in a situation where he did not lead after 54 holes and having started the day two adrift of reigning British Open champion Francesco Molinari.

After his final tap-in for bogey followed by a fist pump and a scream of joy in celebration of a fairytale fightback, Woods went on to hug his son, followed by his daughter, mother and girlfriend of 2 years, Erica Herman. He then went to embrace everyone in his camp who stood by him through a public divorce, an embarrassing mug shot from his DUI that tarnished his reputation, his arrest and not to mention the four back surgeries he endured. “I had serious doubts after what transpired a couple of years ago,” Woods said. “I could barely walk. I couldn’t sit. Couldn’t lay down. I really couldn’t do much of anything. To have the opportunity to come back like this, it’s probably one of the biggest wins I’ve ever had for sure because of it.”

The win has also bolstered Woods world rankings has he managed to return into the top 10, at sixth place for the first time since 2014. Woods was not the only one to win big this weekend, his first victory in over a decade at the 2019 Masters was worth about 22.5 millon US Dollars for his sponsor Nike. Shortly after Woods was declared the winner, Nike released a video on its social media channels starring the masters champ and by Sunday afternoon, some of the Tiger Woods branded apparel and accessories on Nike’s website were sold out.

Tiger Woods winning the 2019 Masters after a treacherous drought involving a divorce, shaming and surgery is arguably the best event in the history of the sport. Woods has silenced all his critics and proved that he still has the juice to compete and conquer this modern era of the game.
