CAF president, Ahmad Ahmad has admitted that Wydad Casablanca were ‘unfairly’ robbed of the chance to fully contest for the CAF Champions League title on Friday night after a VAR malfunction.
Esperance de Tunis retained their CAF Champions League title in controversial fashion after Wydad Casablanca refused to play until the VAR was fixed because they scored a goal that was ruled offside but looked legit. Wydad were wrongfully denied a goal and were then told VAR was not available due to a technical fault play that was halted for over an hour. Wydad players boycotted the match, handing Esperance de Tunis the title.
“Yes. Everything has been unfair towards Wydad. We have had an agreement with a company to supply VAR; however, they informed us they wouldn’t be apply to provide it for technical reasons just before the game,” Ahmad told Moroccan magazine HeSPORT.
